Located just southwest of Gig Harbor is Kopachuck State Park, a 109-acre camping park and marine facility that attracts a large number of water-sports enthusiasts. Sunrise Beach is another popular recreation area, offering hikers the chance to walk amidst Douglas firs and moss-covered maple trees. Visitors interested in learning about local history appreciate the Gig Harbor Peninsula Historical Society & Museum, where interactive displays examine the area's first explorers, commercial industries and businesses.
